Characters[]
The characters that appear in each episode are different.
- Jung Soo-jin: A recent graduate of Yeondu High School.
Maybe it's because she grew up lonely in a poor family, she is bolder than necessary and straightforward with strong pride. She came to like Sung-tae, who is in the same class, but Sung-tae likes Sung-ah. Before Sung-ah’s tragic death in a fire that engulfed the school’s home economics room, Soo-jin was overheard saying that she would ‘kill Sung-ah’ for telling the teachers about her smoking on school grounds, but coincidentally that night, Sung-ah died in a fire in the school's home economics practice room. In the period that followed, many believed Soo-jin to be involved in the incident and so, determined to prove her innocence, Soo-jin invites Sung-tae to sneak into the school on the night of March 14, 2001... [10] [11]
- Jang Sung-tae: A recent graduate of Yeondu High School.
With a timid personality, Sung-tae mostly keeps to himself, working long, uneventful shifts at a local convenience store. He used to like Sung-ah, who was kind to him. At first, he thought Soo-jin's unruly behavior was bothering him. Still, he found out he didn't hate Soo-jin, who kept talking to him, the one lacking friends. However, the rumors surrounding Sung-ah’s death left him troubled and he actively avoided contact with Soo-jin thereafter. He was afraid of being bullied by showing close relationship with Soo-jin to others. In the end, he graduated while remaining ambiguous with Soo-jin, but one day, Sung-tae suddenly receives an invitation from Soo-jin to return to Yeondu High so that she can set the record straight once and for all. [12] [13]
- Kang Seo-yeon: A music teacher at Yeondu High School. (EP 2)
Seo-yeon's father, who was working as a Korean language teacher at Yeondu High School, inexplicably fell off the school roof late at night. His case, however, was closed as suicide. Refusing to believe that her father had taken his own life, Seo-yeon transferred to Yeondu high in search of answers. Over the years Seo-yeon developed an affinity with the occult and learned of the many restless souls trapped within the school. She graduated from Yeondu High School and went back to school to do teaching practice. She found out that dead souls were trapped in the school from several clues over years. She decided to free their (including her father's) souls in order to send them to the heaven. Seo-yeon returns on the night of March 14, 2001 to set into motion her plan to free the spirits and reconcile with the ghosts of her past. [14] [15]
- Yoo Ji-min
A first-year student at Yeondu High School who loves to draw, a character from the previous work. Yoo Ji-min makes a promise to her idol, Han So-young, that she will solve the mystery of her elder sister’s death and give her the closure she so desperately seeks. And so, she returns to school to send Na-young Han's soul to the heaven. A summary of the development process and gradually emerging information about the sequel.
[]
Originally announced on March 13th, 2021 -10:00PM and showcased in teaser as "White Day 2: The Flower That Tells Lies" with the assumed platform of PlayStation 4 (PSVR). The teaser had loud chimes in the background as the trailer faded into images of flowers that appear to be North Star Cherry Blossoms surrounded by bright teal lighting. Then, dripping red text in front of a black background reads, "Born as a flower but never was the one." Overwhelming sounds of flies cover the soundtrack as they're captured by what appear to be Cape Sundews at the base of the flower. Dripping red text reads, "So I became the lie swallowing the truth." The sounds of the flies vanish and the teaser fades into a full image of the flowers and plants surrounding the base. The background is hard to focus on. If you look closely you can see that the background is what appear to be Yeondu Highschool storage room shelves, or at least closely resemble those seen in the White Day Remake.

In November 2019, it was unofficially reported that the 'Swan Song' project was suspended through a post from the fan community of Korea. On March 13, 2021, a new notice was announced at 10:00 PM, the same time that Hee-Min entered the school building 20 years ago. The new notice was 'the new title of the White Day 2' and teaser video. The new title is WHITE DAY 2 : the flower that tell lies ( 화이트데이 2 : 거짓말하는 꽃 ).
[]
On White Day 2022, the first teaser was uploaded to the new YouTube channel along with the second teaser. The studio responsible for the sequel development is now ROOTNSTUDIO. This was previously covered in some Korean media topics, but now it has been officially confirmed. The news also contains information about the approximate release time, which is scheduled for the second half of 2022. The game should be released for consoles and PC (on Steam), but this information has no confirmation.
Unlike early teasers and gameplays of White Day 2, this new teaser features a completely new art style direction and is going for a photo realistic look as opposed to the series traditional cartoonish look seen in the original game, its remake and VR sequel.

On January 16th 2023, the third teaser with a more detailed look at the characters and events was released. The official site[20] was updated with an introducing new characters, media and screenshots sections, and a page[21] of the first episode of the game has also appeared on Steam (apparently, the game will be released episodically).
Trailers revealed and release on Steam[]
On February 15th 2023(KST), the official trailer was released and the next day (Feb 16, 2023) the game was released on Steam (it also included several character costume DLC packs[22] purchased separately). Later, the developers shared information about the episodic release of chapters as separate DLCs. The trailer for the second episode, along with the page[23] on Steam, was released on May 2, 2023.
Reception[]
White Day 2: The Flower That Tells Lies has gone from Mostly Negative reviews to Mixed on Steam following all the patches and bux fixes released.
The sequel has attracted the expectations of countless fans of the previous game, but the released version 1.0 has been criticized by many players due to its too dark rendering, extremely small flashlight range and broken nightguard AI, that would spot the player through walls and constantly know their location despite them not even doing anything. What didn't help, at the time, was the lack of a difficulty setting and the inventory not pausing the game (which have since been fixed).
The form of release in chapters has also led to a few plots in the early stages. In the later stages, a half-finished EP3 followed. All kinds of bugs emerged: important documents, voices and cutscenes were deleted, and the four endings of EP3 were almost completely unattainable through regular means.
Rootnstudio is a new, small company that struggled to meet the high expectations of such a big project.[24] [25]
